Kit Extras

Metal Straws

These things are indispensable. They add an elegant touch to your highballs and Juleps, and are also an excellent sustainable way to do all the tasting you have to behind the bar. Just do me a favor and sanitize the tasting end in some Wray&Nephew before using it again.

Bamboo Straws

Beautiful and environmentally friendly, these bamboo straws are reusable and instantly add a Tiki flair to any glass you put them in.

Spoon Straws

Not gonna lie, I just think these things are COOL. They’re great in Mojitos and Cobblers, helping you push the little bits out of your way. I also use them in Fizzes, which gives your guests a classier way of getting all of that delicious foam that otherwise gets left at the bottom of the glass.

Mini Cutting Board

A mini cutting board like this one can be a godsend behind a busy bar without enough cutting surfaces to go around. Keep your own personal garnish prep station with you wherever you go, and keep your knives happy and sharp.

Bar Mat

Bar Mats. I LOVE Bar Mats. They’re great to have around whether it’s for entertaining, doing private events, prep work, or just keeping it in front of your coffee station at home to make cleanup a breeze. Get a few and thank me later.

Metal Picks

There is no better way to elevate an already elegant cocktail than by skewering your cherry or olive with a piece of art like this. I’ve got a whole collection of these at home, and they’re one of my favorite parts of my Bar Kit.

Spray Bottles

Spray bottles make life easy and minimize waste when you need to rinse a glass or do a stencil of bitters. I like these basic ones better than some of the fancy ones out there. Basic design and minimal moving parts means these things will last forever, with an occasional soak to keep them clean.

Dasher Bottles

After a busy night behind the bar, those paper wrappers around so many bitters bottles get wet and stained, and that’s no fun to look at. Quickly make your bar three levels classier by pouring your bitters off into some of these elegant crystal bottles.

Dropper Bottles

Do yourself a favor and get a ton of these. They are super useful. I use mine for saline solution, citric acid, flower waters, and tincturing. And trust me, if you get into making your own bitters, you’re going to amass a collection of these babies real quick.

Mini Measuring Cup

This is not a substitute for a jigger, but it IS a great tool for workshopping recipes. This little guy from OXO will help you dial in the exact proportions you need to make your cocktails perfect.

Swizzle Stick

The original swizzle sticks were created in the 18th century at a rum plantation in the West Indies using the branch of the Quararibea turbinata (also known as the "Swizzle stick tree"). These are the genuine article, and they are fun as hell to use.

Channel Knife

Sometimes you need one of those thin, elegant twists that rest so delicately on your champagne flute, and there is just no other tool to make them. Get a good one, keep it clean, and it will last you a lifetime.

Matches

Stop flaming your twists with a lighter. It’s gross and it tastes like butane. Matches have a cleaner flavor (after you let the sulfur burn off), and the flare when you light them is an excellent marketing tool. They’re also great to have around for lighting candles (or 151 if you’re so inclined)

I like these longer ones because they give you extra time to do what you need to without burning your little fingers. They also come in a glass jar, which looks great on your bartop and will keep your matches from getting soaked.

Julep Strainer

Originally these strainers were actually designed as moustache guards for fancy Southern Gentlemen who wanted to avoid any sticky bits of ice from their Mint Julep ruining their look. Nowadays they are used almost exclusively for stirred drinks, and the world’s moustaches are left unprotected.

Polishing Cloth

Somehow there are never enough polishing rags to go around. Keep a few of your own in your kit and never serve a drink in a dirty glass again.

Just don’t forget to wash them now and then, there’s nothing worse than having your glassware smell like a wet dog.

Label Maker

And the awards for the Most Unfortunately Named Product Ever goes to… The Brother P-Touch!

But in all seriousness, this is a great little label maker. It’s easy to type on, has customizable borders to fit your bar’s personality, and spits out clean looking (waterproof) labels super quick. Throw out that masking tape and make your bottles look professional AF.

Pens

Nothing disappears faster or more consistently than pens. I swear, there seems to be a wormhole in every pen holder in every bar I’ve ever worked in. If you’re the one who always has an extra (and is always willing to share), you’ll be everyone’s best friend.

Notebook

There’s always a new recipe to be written, or a technique to take notes on. These notebooks from Karst are made with recycled mining waste, so they are environmentally sustainable, and being made of stone makes them WATERPROOF. That’s a lifesaver in my book. (Ah? See what I did there?)
